In May of each year, on one day, most of us take some time to celebrate our mothers. Women’s History – Kalon Women March 2010 Issue

 In the 1970s, a small group of committed feminist activists in California began an organization they called the Womens History article March 2010 Digital Magazine_Page_1National Women‘s History Research Project (later called the National Women‘s History Project or NWHP—see www.nwhp.org). Why is this important? Because the participants in this group successfully lobbied Congress for a National Women‘s History Week!

What is Love? – Kalon Women February 2010 Issue

The first definition in the dictionary states that love is a strong affection or devotion for another person. The second Weaving Her Story February 2010 Digital Magazine_Page_1definition relates to a strong liking or interest – a passion – in something. All of the women profiled in our book Her Story: A Timeline of the Women Who Changed America demonstrated passion for something, as well as the determination and persistence to see that this ― something got accomplished. Passion is also one of the key leadership traits emphasized by the Women‘s Vision Foundation. Although expressed in that context as leading from the head, heart and gut, the meaning is the same. It takes passion for a leader to be successful. Two women who immediately come to mind as exemplifying passion, or love, for their cause, are Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts, and Mary Lyon, whose vision for an educational institution resulted in the establishment of Mount Holyoke College.

Throughout our country’s history, women have made contributions in the sciences, in the arts, in sports, in politics, in business, in medicine, in fact, across every field of endeavor. Women’s accomplishments to our country’s history will no longer be minimized, forgotten and/or ignored. We will highlight women across a wide spectrum of accomplishments and topics and weave their stories into the history with which we are far more familiar.
